About Thomsons

Thomsons Online Benefits is a global leader in the field of benefits management and employee engagement software. Their vision is to bring much needed change to the benefits industry and help the world’s leading organizations to transform their employee reward strategies. Among others, they serve global brand giants such as Cisco, Deutsche Bank, IBM, Google, Apple, Facebook and GfK.

The Background

Benefit packages, allowance and pensions can be confusing. The complicated schemes of calculation often discourage beneficiaries from learning what they can expect to earn after retirement.

One Department of the United Kingdom’s Government decided to offer a technological aid for all their employees to help them understand what they are entitled to. Also they wanted to offer assistance with retirement planning.

The Solution

The solution offered by Thomsons is a web based Benefits Calculator that provides the Department’s employees with a convenient and quick way of assessing the indicative value of their total remuneration package, incorporating basic pay, specialist pay, individual allowances, pension, and other benefits specific for this Department. It also enables employees to access a range of remuneration-related information from a single dedicated site. The solution also displays an interactive chart, where the employee can modify the anticipated pension date.

Qubiz helped Thomsons to improve the solution, as well as to implement new calculations based on the Department’s new Pension Scheme. The solution estimates an employees’s pension based on personal variables, including:

  • Rank
  • Years serving
  • Anticipated date of leaving
  • Pension scheme, etc

Technical Details

The following technologies were used in the development of the solution:

  • C#, ASP.NET 4
  • The data is stored in XML
  • SQL server is used for statistics
