Visual Studio LightSwitch: a new development tool from Microsoft

Microsoft has developed a new tool. This new product is called Visual Studio LightSwitch https://www.microsoft.com/visualstudio/en-us/lightswitch, a Rapid Application Development (RAD) tool for developing line-of-business (LOB) applications easier through pre-built templates and custom business data types. It is a quick way to develop business applications (including Azure, ie Cloud support), based on using pre-existing templates (ie SilverLight Controls).

The advantage of Visual Studio LightSwitch is the ability to deploy to the desktop, the Web and the cloud (Windows Azure). It automatically generates the User Interface for a Data Source without writing any code. Additional code can be written to meet application's requirements. Extensions can be built with Managed Extensibility Framework (MEF).For example, for intermediate developers (with an experience of 1 – 4 years), this technology can be amazing. Moreover, LightSwitch is somehow similar with Microsoft Access, but custom code is written in C# or VisualBasic.Net rather than VBA.An interesting sample of how to create a LightSwitch application for a fictional medical clinic can be found at https://code.msdn.microsoft.com/Visual-Studio-LightSwitch-c8e92df4
