Insights from the BVL Supply Chain CX Event: A Step Toward Sustainable Logistics
What does it take to move from words to action when it comes to sustainability in logistics?
Last week at the BVL Supply Chain CX event in Berlin, I had the opportunity to explore innovations that are reshaping logistics, with a focus on sustainability.
As a Strategic Partnerships Manager, I travel extensively and participate in many events, especially those related to logistics and transportation. What I look forward to the most is seeing concrete use cases and examples of how technology can shape sustainability and other important challenges that the entire world is facing. After all, this is what we do at Qubiz, where software solutions solve real-world problems.
Some events do a better job of this than others, and I want to highlight the BVL Supply Chain CX event in Berlin, Germany, as a very positive example.
BVL Supply Chain CX: Sustainability in Logistics
Here are the most important trends I’ve noticed, which will be relevant for many years to come.
CO₂ emissions reduction in logistics is still relevant
I enjoyed watching forward-thinking startups, each presenting unique solutions to address critical areas like CO₂ emissions reduction and sustainable supply chain frameworks.
The companies showcased advancements such as real-time emission tracking and route optimisation, clearly reflecting the industry’s push toward greener operations.
In short, companies shouldn’t drop the ball on this issue and frankly, they shouldn’t. Cutting emissions will mean a better reputation, more satisfied customers and an improved bottom line. I already see this as a differentiator for transportation companies and it will surely matter even more in the near future.
Transparent Reporting is Key to Reducing Emissions
Freight transportation is set to become the highest greenhouse gas emitting sector by 2050. Transparent reporting means that companies know exactly the impact a company has, from water use to waste disposal. Big data in logistics plays an important role, ensuring that not only is your data usable and complete, but also accurate, consistent and accessible.
I think that Business Intelligence Specialists are slowly but surely gaining a seat at the table, as numbers mean power. Power to make better decisions, improve costs, waste fewer resources and even improve day-to-day operations.
Aiming for a Circular Logistics Environment
A highlight of the event was the Gala evening, during which Denkinger Internationale Spedition GmbH received the prestigious “German Logistics Award 2024” for its groundbreaking Denkinger Rail-Hub.
It’s truly inspiring to see how the company has created a circular logistics environment by integrating sustainable construction, renewable energy sources, alternative propulsion systems, digital rail hubs, and future-ready switch points. This achievement underscores how innovation in logistics can combine environmental responsibility with operational excellence.
Prioritising Collaboration in Logistics
The event also reinforced the importance of collaboration across the logistics ecosystem, where each participant—supply chain service providers, IT solution providers, and startups—plays a crucial role.
Startups can have a major impact, challenging established players by offering fresh perspectives on automation and sustainability. At Qubiz, we see this every day through the InQubator program, where we work with small, but ambitious supply chain startup that offers automated logistics management based on the premise of complete network visibility.

Talking about sustainability is all good, but it’s even better when you actually put in the work.
Leaving the event, I felt reassured that Qubiz’s strategy, investments in technology, and partnerships were on the right track. As technology partners, our role is more vital than ever: we empower our clients to adopt solutions that drive both business growth and sustainability, positioning them to succeed in a competitive market.
In logistics, sustainability isn’t just a goal, it’s the path forward. Innovation and collaboration will continue to be essential as we work together toward a more sustainable future.
