Carradale
From a single-tenant clinical system to a multi-tenant SaaS platform.
SOPHIA, Carradale's flagship clinical workflow system, ran in forty separate deployments — each with its own version, its own protocols, its own upgrade cycle. Qubiz rebuilt it as one platform that all forty share.
The challenge
Forty deployments. Forty versions. One product team.
SOPHIA had grown from a single hospital trust into a network of forty clinical organisations across the UK and Ireland. Each ran its own on-premise instance, on its own schedule, against its own protocol library. Every release required forty separate upgrade engagements; every regulatory change required forty separate validations. The product team was spending more time keeping deployments alive than improving the product, and Carradale's growth had become structurally limited by its delivery model.
Consolidate without losing what made it work in the first place.
Three phases, each gated on clinical sign-off before the next began.
- 01
Architecture
Multi-tenant cloud platform with row-level isolation, per-tenant configuration, and a deployment template that turns onboarding from an engagement into a workflow.
- 02
Protocol harmonisation
Forty divergent protocol libraries consolidated into a shared core with governed local extensions. Clinical leads kept their autonomy without keeping their forks.
- 03
Migration
Three years of clinical records lifted from legacy deployments with verifiable zero-loss reconciliation and a live audit log surfaced to each tenant's clinical governance lead.
- 04
Continuous platform
Releases now ship to all forty tenants weekly. Carradale's product team is back to building product.
WHAT WE BUILT
Multi-tenant SaaS rebuild
Re-architected SOPHIA from a single-tenant on-prem deployment into a multi-tenant cloud platform with hard data isolation, per-tenant configuration, and a deployment template that brings new organisations live in days, not months.
Protocol harmonisation
Worked with clinical leads across the network to consolidate forty divergent local protocols into a shared core with explicit, governed extension points. Local autonomy without local code forks.
Healthcare-grade controls
DSPT, NHS DTAC, and ISO 27001 controls baked into the platform from day one. Each tenant inherits the certifications without running their own evidence collection.
Zero-loss data lift
Migrated three years of clinical records from legacy SQL deployments into the multi-tenant platform with a verifiable zero-loss reconciliation process — live audit log surfaced to clinical governance leads at each tenant.
The outcome
A growth model that no longer fights itself.
40
Organisations now operating on the unified SOPHIA platform.
5d
Average onboarding time for a new tenant — down from three months.
78%
Reduction in deployment-related engineering effort across the product team.
100%
Tenants compliant with NHS DTAC and DSPT through inherited platform certifications.
Qubiz didn't just modernise our codebase — they restructured how our company can grow. Onboarding a new clinical organisation used to be a project. Now it's a workflow.
